Interstatic Main

Interstatic is an interactive installation built from a VEF 202 radio made in the USSR and a Western microphone, hacked together to tell the story of the Cold War through the language of media. The work explores how news and propaganda shaped perception during this tense period, using sound as the main storyteller. Divided into six phases, each one reveals a different aspect of the Cold War. When the user speaks a letter from the callsign, they trigger a corresponding broadcast. Using Max MSP and a machine learning algorithm, the installation recognizes voice input and drives a motorized tuner that searches and clicks between frequencies. The result is a powerful sensory experience that merges vintage technology with modern hacking, inviting the audience to engage directly with the media tensions of the time.
